If Not Now, When? 2010!

In January of 2010 I participated in the IntenSati Warrior Challenge (check out my blog posts from January to read about the challenge) with my hero Patricia Moreno.  I received the following e-mail this morning, and after reading it I had the intention that I set for myself ACTUALLY come true.  That's how I know that the IntenSati Method really works.  I will reveal my intention soon. . .but for now, please read this letter.  Inspire yourself!

My hero Patricia Moreno!
"It's still 2010, with just two more months before 2011. I think it's a perfect time to stop and look back at the intention you set for the beginning of the year. The theme for 2010 is "if not now, when?" You still have plenty of time to end this year on fire! Time is passing and it will not wait, so go back and look at what you declared was so important to you. What have you accomplished and what have you given up on? Can you handle the truth that there is no one stopping you but you? Are you willing to call up something greater within you right now, drop the excuses and the complaints, and go for it in the next two months?

I am right now living in the bliss of having one of my biggest dreams come true. After more than 2 years of recommitting over and over, and not taking no for an answer, I am so grateful I did not give up. I am so grateful for all the love, support and encouragement from loved ones and friends. I am grateful for all those who succeeded before me to show me that it was possible, and were the springboard for my faith.

I want to be your encouraging friend, part of your support group, and your springboard to a higher level of faith and courage to hold on to your dream and desire to live life according to what you really want. I want to encourage you with all my heart not to lose faith. I want to encourage you to take a good look at yourself to see if you are living from fear... Fear that it won't happen, fear that you might get hurt, and fear that you simply are not good enough. And if you are living from fear, I encourage you to do the work right now to change it! Right now, today, drop every excuse, stop blaming outside circumstances, and call up in yourself the courage to achieve what you have not achieved before. Call up in yourself, right now, the willingness to do your absolute best and to simply not settle for less.

When you find that level of passion and enthusiasm for life, you also find within yourself latent powers that will be ignited once you make a firm commitment and say "I will not stop until I succeed!" Have you said that yet? Have you looked around to see that there are others who have succeeded in making even the most challenging of dreams a reality?

If one person can do it, so can you, and if no one has succeeded before, then you be the one! Be the one to lead, inspire, and break free! Be the one who will stand for it being a reality in your life regardless of what others say. Be the master of your own fate by aligning yourself with the greatest power in the world - the power of love! Nothing is impossible with love! Nothing!

Think about a time when you made a firm decision that you will succeed, and think about who you became in that instant. When a mother lifts a car to save her child, when someone trapped in life-threatening situations survives, when people survive life-threatening illness above all odds. Think of great spiritual teachers, leaders, inventors. These people are not "special" or "lucky;" they are like you and me, and we all have the same access to the very energy that creates worlds!

In order for your grandest dream to become a reality you will have to admit you love yourself enough to go for it. You will have to admit you are capable with the power of love. You will have to admit that the only thing in the way of you fulfilling your dream is you. That longing to be more is the sacred calling of your soul, and denying that calling, denying your talent, your gift, your self is causing you more pain because every time you proclaim you are not enough, you are not worthy, you are not loved, you deny yourself access to the love that is your power to achieve what you were born to achieve! So set yourself free! You were born to fly! Let go and let the good that is your birthright in. Make yourself available for more than you have ever had before!

Yes it may be challenging, you may fail a few more times, but by simply doing the best you can do now you will train your mind to be about something greater, something you have never before achieved. You will have to train your mind to believe, declare, and see what you have not allowed yourself to see before. Choose to break precedent and lead with your heart and a powerful mind. 2010: if not now, seriously, when?

"Words without experience are just words." -Dalai Lama

Don't just say it or think about it do it today! Life is passing and it will not wait!

With great love and respect to you, my friends! I believe in YOU!"
- Patricia

Back in the Saddle Again

Old country version or Aerosmith version- take your pick.

Happy Easter everyone! Hope you are limiting your Easter goody intake- I don't think that Cadbury Cream Eggs are in the dairy group or count as a protein. You know, I had one the other day and it wasn't as delicious as I remembered. I love the fancy organic super dark chocolate I get at Whole Foods, and the chocolate the egg was made of was a little. . .plastic. I was shocked! I love the egg! But I ate it and reminisced about being a kid and being obsessed with the gooey creamy center.

I wanted to check in with you all about my injury and let you know I successfully completed the Insanity Core Balance and Recovery week that I set out to do! I think the issue with my hip came from squatting too deeply. I really was getting down there, equating low squats with "success" and "progress", only to pull all the muscles. Way to go, Alison.

I was so afraid of hurting myself again! The first day I was so timid, but after the yoga day with Bob Harper (I felt amazing the next day after the class, it was like magic) I pushed through the week with more and more enthusiasm every day, culminating in the intenSati class in Central Park yesterday.

I am now ready to pick up where I left off and FINALLY finish that last week of Insanity! And get my "I finished Insanity and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" t-shirt.

Have a wonderful day whether you celebrate the holiday or not- and let's get ready to kick some Insanitail this week!

intenSatiday *boop* in the Park (I think it was the 4th of July. . .)

Chicago was the first thing to pop into my head! That is what a beautiful sunny day does to me, folks.

I wanted to extend an invitation on behalf of super intenSati leader Lindsay Davis to attend free intenSati classes in Central Park- starting tomorrow morning (Saturday April 3rd) at 9:45 am. The class will meet at the entrance of Central Park at 59th street/Columbus Circle and will walk into the park at 10 am sharp! Lindsay was chosen as NY1 New Yorker of the Week because of starting these classes. Click on the link to watch the really inspiring video!

http://www.ny1.com/1-all-boroughs-news-content/108568/-i-nyer-of-the-week---i--open-air-fitness-guru-lifts-city-spirits

If you have read my intenSati blog posts when I was participating in the Warrior Challenge in January, you know what a huge fan I am of the practice and how inspiring and motivating I think it is. These outdoor classes are a great opportunity to try it out for free!

Here is what Lindsay said when I asked her why people should come and work out in front of other people (gasp!): "Certainly, CP intenSati is an exciting way to think about spreading joy, positivity, an example of wellness and gratitude!! For students, we learn to get over caring what other people think and I've found that people who watch are doing it with such appreciation and amazement, like we're putting a show on! The FRESH AIR ROCKS!!!!!!! :)"

It promises to be a beautiful day tomorrow, so I hope you will come out and get intenSatisfied! For a full listing of classes and to find out more about the intenSati Method, check out http://www.satilife.com/

Recovering Nicely- Week 2 Without the Insanity

Hello blogophiles! Happy to report that on my two week mark without my beloved Insanity I am doing leaps and bounds better!

It was very hard mentally to be without the intensity of Insanity. I really thought I was going to reverse all the progress that I had made over the past two months in just these couple weeks in traction. Easy yoga just doesn't have the same calorie burn, you know? I have really watched my food and I have managed to maintain my weight without any gain (woo!). I am so thankful that I did listen to my body and took the time to really stretch and take care of myself. Because of the preventative measures I took that first week, this week I have been able to incorporate lighter aerobic activities into the rotation with no further injury aggravation.

I did level 1 of Jillian Michael's Shred, intenSati Great Body Great Life with Patricia Moreno (awesome new DVD I picked up during the intenSati Warrior Challenge), and today I did 10 Minute Solution Kick Box Boot Camp with Keli Roberts. Every morning I wake up and check my hip and how it is feeling, and the only move that seems to give me any problems is laying supine and tilting my pelvis with my legs to do a lower body crunch. That gives some discomfort, so of course, I don't push my luck.

So here's the plan, Stan. After the weekend I plan on doing Insanity Core Cardio and Balance for one week (like the Insanity recovery week) and then completing the very last week of Insanity like I originally planned before I jacked myself up. Then I can take my final results picture and get the Insanity t-shirt for finishing!!!! And I can tell everyone to suck it while pointing at the shirt. :)

Here's to a healthy weekend and some healthy Insanity!

Day 28: intenSati Insanity Challenge- Last Day of intenSati!

I HAVE DONE IT! I have completed 4 weeks of intenSati with 3 classes (occasionally 4) a week with one leadership workshop and one writing workshop thrown in for good measure. It was a really amazing journey-one I will go into greater detail in tomorrow's post. But I must give you the website addresses for all things sati related:

www.satilife.com and www.patriciamoreno.com

Check them out!

My present today for completing the challenge was this awesome shirt that says "If not now, when? 2010!" which was the chant that we said on the first day of the challenge.

It means a lot to have this shirt and the feeling that I was inducted into a little society of warriors! This challenge changed my whole outlook on what I was going to do this year. No more complaining, no more excuses, only saying yes! I am actually really really really excited about getting my ACE certification and being on my way in the fitness career I have always wanted. And eventually, I will make being an intenSati Leader apart of that journey.

But today is today, and after the close of the challenge I headed home and did my Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit with a new found sense of energy (where does it come from?) and said goodbye to Month ONE!

Recovery week this week and then onto month two! The warrior in me sees and bows to the warrior in you!

Namaste. . .

Day 27: intenSati Insanity Challenge

Today I am experiencing something I haven't felt in ages.

When I was in junior high, I used to love going to the school dances. I was REALLY into head banging. I had long hair and I loved to flip it all around all crazy to whatever music was on. The next morning I would wake up and my neck would be so sore!

Yesterday's danceSati had this particular move where I whipped my head from side to side. As I said in my blog, I was pushing myself as hard as I could. And this morning I woke up and wouldn't you know that my neck was sore? No Nirvana or Pearl Jam required.

And since I took my rest day yesterday, I had Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs waiting for me today. CARDIO ABS! So, I used the heating pad on my neck and the knot I have in my left lat (I know, I am a hot mess), took some ibuprofen, drank a lot of fluid and a big glass of milk, and decided to take today as an opportunity to really gauge my form and do each exercise to the best of my ability.

The point is to be safe and smart- don't push yourself to the point of pain, but rather, use the workout as a way to loosen the muscles and get up a nice sweat. I would rather do that then give up and throw in the towel any day.

Day 26: intenSati Insanity Challenge

I decided to do a double whopper of classes today- danceSati and yogaSati. Let me tell you- dance and yoga are NO JOKE to Patricia Moreno. NO JOKE! I was dripping with sweat, pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do.

I keep thinking about what Patricia said in strengthSati a couple of weeks ago: you have to try and push yourself as hard as you can. No drama- if you can do it, great. If not, it's not a big deal. At least you tried. I now have her voice in the back of my head whenever I am doing any activity and I honestly ask myself: am I pushing myself as hard as I can?

It's a whole new way to not be complacent.

However, in my attempt to be a super bad ass, I was super exhausted and decided to have my Insanity rest day today instead of Sunday. That way I am all geared up for the weekend and for the big finale of intenSati on Sunday.

Woop woop!

Day 24 and 25: intenSati Insanity Challenge

I actually forgot to blog yesterday! Me, without something to say. Actually, I got all wrapped up in an episode of Big Love and then it was time to go to work. Nothing like polygamy to make you forget all your troubles.

Yesterday I did Plyometric Cardio Circuit and today I did Cardio Recovery in my Insanity rotation. And I drank all my water for my intenSati challenge.

What is hard is getting myself to do BOTH workouts on the same days. I never knew that intenSati was going to be such a tough cardio challenge, and then to add that on top of Insanity was going to be such a true physical challenge.

I am proud to be able to have the well being, health, and strength to do both activities. But I am really pushing myself as hard as I can and I am a little relieved that one of my challenges ends of Sunday so I don't completely burn out. Whew.

I've said my peace. Now off!

Day 23: intenSati Insanity Challenge

I can't believe that the intenSati part of my journey is almost finished! That is sad.

Today I rewarded myself for all my hard work today (Cardio Strength and Resistance with Insanity) and all the water I drank for intenSati up to this point with an amazing Ayurveda massage.

OH GOD. It felt so NICE! You punish the body and then you reward the body. Okay, I don't think working out is a punishment and is it's own greatest reward, but getting a massage sure feels nicer. And I didn't sweat as much.

ONWARD. word.

Day 21 and 22: intenSati Insanity Challenge

Who has two thumbs and a serious case of the Mondays? This guy! I am gesturing to myself, in case you couldn't tell.

After the intenSati weekend I had, I was a little tired and a little grumpy to bring it with Insanity today. Especially when I saw what the title was: Pure Cardio AND Cardio Abs. CARDIO ABS! Lord. Where will I muster the courage? THE COURAGE?!?

I had to reflect upon my lessons from Sunday. I took intenSati with a new instructor, Erika (here is her twitter feed) who is amazing and inspiring. The class was HUGE and had maybe a million people in it. The energy was through the roof! I honestly don't know how I get this sweaty. I mean, I could feel the sweat dripping off of my chin onto the front of my shirt. GROSS! But kind of cool, too. I like it when I am that into something.

Then it was time to towel off and change for the Leadership Workshop that was hosted by Patricia Moreno and her friend and president of the Handel Group Laurie Gerber. Laurie is super adorable and ambitious and wants to save the world! One life coaching at a time.

I wish I had all night to tell you how much I learned from taking this class and how I can't wait to have more cash-o-la to take life coaching- because I can see how beneficial it can be and I want to shout it from the rooftops! But I actually have plans this evening and I have to cut it short.

I wanted to leave you with Laurie's tips on being a leader- they are amazing!

1.) A leader has clear vision- they have their vision locked in.
2.) A leader walks the talk.
3.) A leader's vision is all for the world and is connected to that.
4.) A leader puts themselves through hell PUBLICLY.
5.) A leader has courage.
6.) A leader can keep track of their mind.

Can you identify yourself in these steps? Can you see yourself being a leader?

Of course you are. :) So I sucked it up and did the Cardio Abs. And it was good.

Day 20: intenSati Insanity Challenge

Oh, the weather outside is frightful! But my fire is SO delightful. And since I've no place to go. . .

Let it blow, let it blow, let it blow!

The wind is like a razor blade today- HOLY GEEZ! I actually left the safety and security of the apartment today and dragged my boyfriend to an intenSati creative writing workshop hosted by the lovely Lindsay Davis (her blog is called Lindspiration and you can read it here!) who is an intenSati instructor and writer.

Before I did that, I did Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit and was feeling like a real pro. Especially on the in and out plank work. But alas, I move on in two weeks to the next level, and I'm sure it will take me another three weeks to feel like a pro again.

After the Insanity, we braved the cold and went to the Equinox on 33rd and Park- very nice! There was a big bunch of us there, and we were lead through an hour long workout, followed by an hour of creative writing exercises. Here is the affirmation we worked on today:

I am powerful
I am inspired
I am confident
I feel desire
I am ready to write
I am willing to write
I am able to write
I write- right now!
I am free to succeed
I let my voice lead
I intend to open my heart and grow
With courage and discipline
I write what I know.

At first, I was doubtful of going. I didn't really consider myself a WRITER. Writers write books and newspapers and magazines. . .and blogs. They write blogs! And I write a blog. Which means that I AM a writer. Doubtful thoughts be gone!
The workout was great, and it was fun to watch my boyfriend sweat through it and chant along. He thought the affirmation was cheesy at first, but once he got into it, he actually liked it. :) He really dug the "Karate Kid" moment at the end of practice when things slowed down a bit. He felt like Lindsay was Mr. Miyagi and he was Daniel-son.
The writing exercises were so interesting, that I wanted to open up and share two of them with you. I hope that they inspire you to try something similar. Or you think they are nerdy. Whatever- the point is is that I really enjoyed the process!
Confidence
I am in Mrs. Stafford's first grade class. I am at the front of the class and it is a show and tell day- and I didn't bring anything to show! Being a funny kooky kid, I pointed out to my teacher and classmates that I would be doing the "tell" portion. I proceeded to launch into what would best be described as a stand up comedy routine. I told a story about my new baby brother, who was about 1-year-old at the time, and how we made bby sandwiches with him: 2 pillows and Justin was the meat. I remember my classmates all laughing about it. I felt amazing that I could make everyone feel so happy and free with just my own self.
I Let My Voice Lead
Hey Doubty McGee,
I want you to know that I am worthy of love and people like me and care what I have to say. Think of how many others can't even say or do that! Why do you have to pick me apart and make me feel like I am worthless, fat, ugly, a loser, a quitter, a cheater, incompetent, undesirable? I want you to shut up- in the nicest way possible- and I want you to say YES. Just yes. I don't want to hear your whining. Seriously. It gets on my nerves.
Sincerely,
Alison
PS- If you decide to stick around, make sure it's only to tell me how awesome I am. And then maybe we can think about changing that nickname.

Day 19: intenSati Insanity Challenge

It's FRIDAY! YAY! I don't know why I love Fridays- they come in Good form, in TGIFridays form, but something about Fridays just crackle with electricity and the promise of rest and relaxation.

Am I going to get any of that? No. . .but I love to live vicariously through the "normal" people who have regular job hours and aren't in the Warrior Challenge and doing Insanity at the same time.

Today was Insanity Plyometrics and Cardio Resistance, which is a toughie. However, I felt so GOOD today that I kicked some serious ass and felt like a mega rock star at the end. A sweaty rock star, but a rock star nonetheless.

This weekend is full of intenSati- class, a special writer's class that I'm taking my boyfriend to (evil laugh), and leadership workshop. I will, of course, be blogging all the way.

With a sip from my third bottle of Sigg, I bid you a happy weekend!

Day 18: intenSati Insanity Challenge

I love my Insanity Cardio Recovery days! It feels so good to stretch out these tired muscles and give myself the ability to charge up for the future!

I feel the wheels are starting to really move in my career. It's exciting and it's scary. Moving into the unknown frightens me sometimes. And being frightened can lead to immobilization, which leads to me not wanting to do anything, which leads me to stay stuck where I am, which is not where I want to be.

It's a vicious cycle.

Today I am trying to take a deep breath and just keep plugging forward. Onward and most certainly upward! As Patricia would say, "What I want is on it's way. And it is coming to me in greater amounts than I could ever imagine."

Day 17: intenSati Insanity Challenge

My butt is sore. Damn those curtsy lunges! But at least I know it's working!

Day 17 of my challenge is complete! WHAT WHAT! I did Insanity Pure Cardio and my nemesis Cardio Abs. Which actually wasn't AS tough as I thought it was going to be. Maybe because I was mentally prepared for the beating I was about to take.

I wanted to talk about excuses for a second. I notice when I am reading posts from the Celebrate Weight Loss forum or looking at blogs with people that haven't posted for 5 months but their blog title is "Watch Me Lose 100 pounds- My Journey to Greatness!" that there are some pretty amazing excuses being used to not work out.

NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG. I understand that sometimes there are days when you wish your bed was already made, to quote The Bangles. You can be legitimately sick or injured. But half the game of making yourself well and creating self discipline is making yourself actually do it.
Yeah, it's hard. Nobody told you that it would be easy. But do you really want it? Then you must make yourself do it. Slacking off because you have a headache or you just aren't in the mood to sweat aren't good excuses. There is a reason why you have gotten where you are and why you want to change. Now all you have to do is make it happen.

So make it happen!!!

Day 16: intenSati Insanity Challenge

Doesn't it feel so great when you set out to accomplish your goals and you actually accomplish them? There are plenty of days when you will make a to-do list and you don't check anything off.
Today I checked all of my items off of my to-do list! YAY!

1.) Go to strengthSati. CHECK. If intenSati could get any harder, it would be this class. OH MY GOD. Weights. And push ups. Lots of push ups. And curtsy lunges. Lotsa those too. Patricia had a great blog about weight loss today- click here to read!

2.) Write my Biggest Loser blog. CHECK. And it was pretty funny, if I do say so myself.

3.) Do Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit. CHECK. I am actually getting a little stronger every time I do it. My favorite part is the punches at the end. Mostly because they are at the end. :)

Now I can kick back, relax, and watch the Biggest Loser! Hoo RAH!

Day 14 and 15: intenSati Insanity Challenge

Rest days are the BEST! Aren't they? Yesterday I really rocked out the resting.

Today was my fit test 15 days into my Insanity challenge. And I was really pleased by my results. My weight stayed the same, but I lost 1.6 inches off my waist, 1.5 inches off my hips, and 1.3 inches off my chest. Woo!

Here are the results of the fit test:

Switch Kicks: Day 1- 120 Day 15- 118

Power Jacks: Day 1- 56 Day 15- 53

Power Knees: Day 1- 102 Day 15- 110

Power Jumps: Day 1- 35 Day 15- 32

Globe Jumps: Day 1- 10 Day 15- 11

Suicide Jumps: Day 1- 18 Day 15- 19

Push-Up Jacks: Day 1- 30 Day 15- 34

Low Plank Oblique: Day 1- 55 Day 15- 74

I grew in some areas. I can only assume that the exercises I did worse on I had better form than the first time. Regardless, I still feel super positive about the growth I made!

And here are the pictures, as promised.

Day 13: intenSati Insanity Challenge

I had a new component to my workout today- Insanity Cardio Abs.

I have never been a huge fan of ab workouts- I do them because I know it is important to have a strong core and a strong core is the basis of all fitness- CORE CORE CORE!!! But when I started doing P90x and the workout Ab Ripper X, I really started to DESPISE ab work. I hate it, but I need it. I didn't think any ab workout could ever be tougher or more grueling than Ab Ripper X.

Then I did Cardio Abs. OMG. It was SO HARD! I was whining like a little baby. It follows Pure Cardio, which is such a tough workout anyway, but then to tack on an extra 20 minutes of ab work is INSANE. Or f'n crazy. Which isn't as promotable, I'm sure.

And there isn't a single crunch. It's almost pilatesesque in its level of torture. But I made it through week 2 successfully, and tomorrow is a rest day!!!

Monday I will post the results of my fit test after 15 days of this craziness.
