Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 13- "The Ultimate Dance Off- Part 2" THE FINALE!!!

I'm going to miss finding pictures of Michael and his crazy faces every week now that season 2 of Dance Your Ass Off is over. Sigh.

The second part of the finale consisted of the final contestants tracking their journey from the beginning of the competition and how much they have changed. There was some fierce dancing, but in the end, Latoya was crowned the champion, beating Adamme by only a couple points. IT SUCKED. I mean, I love Adamme.

Congrats to Latoya. She does look INCREDIBLE and her dancing is unreal. Here is the recap (the dancing starts around 3:00 in):

And here are some still shots that I love that captured the "drama" and "pageantry".

I can't wait until next season! Now onto Thintervention, Money Hungry, and The Biggest Loser!

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 12- "The Ultimate Dance Off- Part 1"

Yes, part 1. We couldn't have the finale in one episode. NO! And I was just complimenting Oxygen on fitting all the action into one neat hour sized package. . .

At the beginning of the episode, Mel B informs remaining contestants Adamme and Latoya that they will be going home for five weeks as their final challenge. No doctors, trainers, or professionals: They will have to fend for themselves and then come back for the final dance off. Adamme packs up his suitcase full of dream catchers and heads back to Vegas- Latoya goes wherever it is that she lives. I think the Bronx? Jersey? It looks really suburban!

Five weeks later all the previous contestants return to have a reunion at Runyon Canyon, the place they all had to run up the first day they arrived. Some people look like they have kept up the weight loss, other people look like they have eased up a bit. Michael, Katie, Erica, Corey, and Kiki seem like they have the most extreme transformations. Before the contestants run up the canyon, Briana announces she ended up having ACL surgery on her knee and Erica is pregnant with her third child. Get it, Erica! Michael also claims to be pregnant, if only to ride in the truck to the top of the canyon.

Once at the top, Mel B introduces the new Latoya and Adamme who have turned into lean mean dancing machines! Mel B also announces a TWIST--three former contestants will be put back into the competition for a dance off based on the amount of weight they have lost. One dancer will be chosen to join Latoya and Adamme for a last chance at the $100,000 prize. Michael, Corey, and Katie are the lucky three. . .which means we must endure watching Corey and Michael dance again. A strangely unique gift. Super surprise is Katie, who looks incredible and who's dancing has only gotten better with her weight loss.

So, how does everyone stack up? Here is their weight loss in order of their eliminations:
Caleb: 30.1 lbs
Meredith: 45.6 lbs
Sarah: 22.5 lbs
Erica: 50 .1 lbs
Kiki: 49.0 lbs
Briana: 61.4 lbs
Katie: 56.9 lbs
Stephanie: 34.7 lbs
Corey: 80.4 lbs
Michael: 85.8 lbs
and the final two. . .
Adamme: 105.7 lbs
Latoya: 58.6 lbs

The "wild cards" compete in their dance off, and although I really wanted Katie to be chosen, Michael takes the third place position. Corey may have done the most uncomfortable moonwalk I have ever seen. . .but Michael's face during the first finale dance earns this week's prize of making me scrunch down on my couch in horror. Or first prize in the tiger impression contest.

The dancing starts at 2:20 in the clip!

Next episode-- finale part two! Two more dances, the final weigh in, and the crowing of season two's champion ass off-er. WHO WILL IT BE? (Adamme, please be Adamme!)

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 11- "Then There Were 3"

We have made it to the semifinals!!! It was a long journey, filled with many hours of sweat, tears, and monologues with gay country sayings the way only Michael could do it. The three remaining contestants are Michael, Latoya, and Adamme-- who, incidentally, I called out in my first blog post as my favorite. Do I watch a lot of TV or what? I can pick the winners in the beginning!

There is some strife in the DYAO household: Adamme and Latoya are snipping at each other about everything from gas to wiping your sweat off the elliptical machine. Sounds nasty. Michael hopes their arguing results in lower numbers on the scale and decreased dance ability. If only it worked that way, Michael. If only.

The three dancers meet Mel B on the beach to hear about their semifinal challenges. She announces that three is the magic number: A group dance, a jazz routine involving a prop and tricky turns, and a hip hop number. MORE HIP HOP FOR MICHAEL! He must be so thrilled.

After a recreation of Adamme and Latoya's bickering for their dance partners, the contestants are invited to dinner with Mel B. And surprise-- they have guests! Adamme's twin brother, Michael's best friend, and Latoya's mom. Her name is VELVET. I love it. We also learn that Michael used to work at Dollywood. OF COURSE.

After the introductions of the judges including SYTYCD guest judge Tabitha (from Nappy Tabs!), it is time for the dance break, suckas.

Everyone does so well, it is literally down to the scale to decide who will be continuing to the finals.

Adamme: From 225.9 lbs to 215.9 lbs- 10 lbs lost + dance score = 14.1

Latoya: From 170.2 lbs to 168.7 lbs- 1.5 lbs lost + dance score = 10.8

Michael: From 216.1 lbs to 212.0 lbs- 4.1 lbs + dance score = 9.9

Michael is heading home, but not without a great parting interview and a signature finger snap.

Next episode: PART 1 (what?) of the finals. So big it has to be divided into two parts like those Harry Potter movies.

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 10- "A (Big) Star is Born"

Really, Oxygen Network? A (Big) star? Oh, because we didn't know that the show was about fat people? Now that there are only two episodes left and everyone is feeling confident about themselves and all the weight they have lost, let's rub it in.

I hate that!

Nevertheless.

This week was all about Hollywood. Nothing screams Hollywood like a sequel, and Mel B tells the contestants they must revisit a dance style that they didn't perform so well the first go 'round.

Latoya: chacha

Adamme: salsa

Michael: jazz funk

Corey: pop jazz (the difference between jazz funk and pop jazz? anyone?)

The contestants also must live their lives like Hollywood stars. They get to have spray tans, funky workouts, prepackaged meals, and acupuncture. "I thought I almost pooped myself--but I didn't! It was just a sensation!" announced Michael after his treatment.

Mel B also announces the contestants will be performing solos this week and they will be judged by SYTYCD wunderkind Travis Wall (one of my fave past dancers and current choreographers!). I actually shrieked in my apartment when I saw him I was so excited.

Time to watch Corey get weird and Michael pull some face: DANCE BREAK!

How did the final four do in the weight loss category?

Latoya: From 175.3 lbs to 170.2 lbs- 5.1 lbs lost + dance score = 21.9
Adamme: From 232.5 lbs to 225.9 lbs- 6.6 lbs lost + dance score = 21.1
Michael: From 225.7 lbs to 216.1 lbs- 9.6 lbs lost + dance score = 21
Corey: From 263.1 lbs to 257.0 lbs- 6.1 lbs lost + dance score = 14.7

Corey is heading home, but he did lose 68.9 pounds in total. If he is a dance master. . .well. . .that remains to be seen.

Next episode is the semi finals where three is the magic number! Three contestants! Three dances! Three chances for Michael to wear leather jackets!

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 9- "Temptation City"

Better than "Temptation Island".

Unknown Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts (I know you are thinking "Who?") greets the contestants at their home to tell the final 5 they will be going to Vegas to blow off some steam and try out their new found skills in healthy eating and exercising.

Mel B meets the dancers at their penthouse suite in Vegas to tell them that "temptation assumes many forms. . .your behavior is all up to you!" She also shares this week's dance challenge: Burlesque. Not to be confused with the new Christina Aguilera/Cher dance movie. The dancers will also have to use props in their dances:
Adamme: nightstick
Michael: blindfold and chair (I am scared.)
Stephanie: couch
Latoya: feather boa
Corey: hat

First Vegas temptation: Drinking at a nightclub. Mel B takes them to the VIP section of Haze (no pun intended) to see who is going to drink all that vodka. The winners are Michael and Stephanie.

Second Vegas temptation: The dreaded Vegas buffet. If you have ever been to a Vegas buffet, you know that there is every food under the sun and then some. Would the contestants be able to pass up the pizza and potatoes and hit up the salad bar? It looks like only one contestant found her Achilles Heel: Seaweed salad. One employee told Stephanie it had no oil, another said it did. Regardless, she ate three bowls. She may have been better served only having one bowl? I always say you can eat almost anything you want if it is in moderation. Or I steer clear of those buffets! They are just not natural!!!

After a quick visit to see last season's winner Ruben back stage at his job at Viva Elvis, it is back to the grind- literally- at a cardio strip tease class at Crunch gym to learn some burlesque moves. Then it is time for the show- DANCE BREAK!

After washing my eyes with bleach after Michael's dance (sorry Michael!), it is time for the weigh in.
Latoya: From 181.5 lbs to 175.3 lbs- 6.2 lbs lost + dance score = 12.4
Adamme: From 240.2 lbs to 232.5 lbs- 7.7 lbs lost + dance score = 11.9
Michael: From 231.9 lbs to 225.7 lbs- 6.2 lbs lost + dance score = 10
Corey: From 271.2 lbs to 263.1 lbs- 8.1 lbs lost + dance score = didn't mention
Stephanie: From 170.3 lbs to 171.3 lbs- 1 lb gained + dance score = 8.7

Stephanie is defeated by the horrible seaweed salad incident in Vegas- what happened there didn't stay there- and she is sent home.

Next episode: solo dances!!!

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 8- "Prom Diggity!"

By the title, I thought the show was going to be an homage to the cheesy gowns and tuxes of our high school proms. Maybe the electric slide thrown in for good measure. Mel B tells the contestants it's a prom to celebrate their graduation into healthy new lives. Okay. . .so, why not make it graduation themed? What do I know? In addition, the contestants must master a trick into their jazz funk routines.

Latoya- Front walkover

Stephanie- Hitch kick

Katie- Triple pirouette (what?)

Adamme- Russian Leap a.k.a. Toe touch

Michael- Axel Jump

Corey- Barrel Turn

Still in a jazz funk, the dancers bump into their trainer, "General" Lee, who tells them they will be running a mile in weighted vests. After they complete the run, he reveals the vests represent how much weight they have lost thus far in the competition. Everyone is so proud of themselves that they can take the weight off and drop it in front of them.

At the dinner table later that night, the contestants tell front runner Latoya that they are tired of her bitching and moaning about everything. They are trying to be a family and be supportive of one another, to which Latoya replies, "I don't feel a family here period. I could really care less." OUCH. Adamme lays down the law: "Don't complain in my presence- it brings me down and it is a drag."

After announcing the aptly named Joey Fatone as the guest judge and a quick Lanacane anti-chafing gel plug, it is time for a DANCE BREAK!

And the weigh in. . .

Adamme: From 249.7 lbs to 240.2 lbs- 9.5 lbs lost + dance score = 12.1

Latoya: From 187.7 lbs to 181.5 lbs- 6.2 lbs lost + dance score = 12

Stephanie: From 174.8 lbs to 170.3 lbs- 4.5 lbs lost + dance score = 9.6

Corey: From 276.9 lbs to 271.2 lbs- 5.7 lbs lost + dance score = 9.1

Michael: From 235.9 lbs to 231.9 lbs- 4 lbs lost + dance score = 9

Katie: From 184.3 lbs to 181.1 lbs- 3.2 lbs lost + dance score = 8.7

Katie fall short, taking her disco stick and heading home. Mel B gives her boost, telling her "You were really sexy this week!"

Next week: Vegas trip- buffets and shots, oh my!

Monday, July 26, 2010

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 7- "Princess on top, prostitute on the bottom."

AKA- Ballroom dancing. On every dance reality show this day comes. Some competitors shine. Some are stinky. All we know is that Michael wants to beat Latoya in a major way, Stephanie doesn't mind being pelvis to pelvis with her partner Oskar, and Erica got a troubling hand written note from her husband about his health and now she is homesick.

But enough about that. LET'S DANCE!

Michael says he is going to be like a "stealth bomber" and wins this week show!

Michael: From 242.6 lbs to 235.9 lbs- 6.7 lbs lost + dance score = 10.8

Corey: From 284.7 lbs to 276.9 lbs- 7.8 lbs lost + dance score = 10.7

Latoya: From 190.9 lbs to 187.7 lbs- 3.2 lbs lost + dance score = 10.7

Adamme: From 254.7 lbs to 249.7 lbs- 5.0 lbs lost + dance score = 10.3

Stephanie: From 176.5 lbs to 174.8 lbs- 1.7 lbs lost + dance score = 9.3

Katie: From 190.3 lbs to 184.3 lbs- 6 lbs lost + dance score = 9.2

Erica: From 207.6 lbs to 203.8 lbs- 3.8 lbs lost + dance score = 8.5

Erica is heading home five pants size smaller- losing a total of 28.9 lbs! I will miss her and her Staten Island flava.

Next episode: difficult tricks. Who will be turning them?

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 6- "Sum-Sumatime!"

Dance shows are great summer TV. They are fun and light, very entertaining, and lately, chocked full of injuries. Dancers make it look SO EASY, but on So You Think You Can Dance two dancers (Alex and Ashley) were sent home two weeks in a row for a torn Achilles Tendon and rib injuries. Not to be outdone, someone on Dance Your Ass Off was also sent home for a dance related injury this week.

The lovable Briana who brings it week after week tore her MCL (medial collateral ligament) and all are wondering if she will be able to compete.

Before all that, though, the contestants are told by Mel B this week's show is a celebration of all things Summer. The contestants will be hosting a BBQ and forced to wear bathing suits, which prompts contestant Katie to say, "We are still fat obese people!"

Trainer Lee teaches the contestants to tread water in an aqua based workout, nutritionist Rachel tells them how to make a diet friendly BBQ spread, and Adamme leis everyone in their backyard. In between they are all learning their routines for the show. And we learn that Stephanie is still a virgin. Last week she was on her period. Do you think she knows that all this is going to be on television?

DANCE BREAK!

And the weigh in:
Adamme: From 263.2 lbs to 254.7 lbs- 8.5 lbs lost + dance score = 12.2
Latoya: From 195.6 lbs to 190.9 lbs- 4.7 lbs lost + dance score = 10.4
Stephanie: From 180.5 lbs to 176.5 lbs- 4.0 lbs lost + dance score = 9.5
Erica: From 210.1 lbs to 207.6 lbs- 2.5 lbs lost + dance score = 8.9
Michael: From 249.1 lbs to 242.6 lbs- 6.5 lbs lost + dance score = 8.3
Katie: From 194.2 lbs to 190.3 lbs- 3.9 lbs lost + dance score = 8.3
Corey: From 290.3 lbs to 284.7 lbs- 5.6 lbs lost + dance score = 7.9

Briana doesn't even weigh in as her knee gives out during her performance and she is unable to finish competing in the contest. Which is a shame because she had some serious moves!

Next episode is strictly ballroom- a curse for some. . .

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episodes 4 & 5- QUICK-CAP!

Quick-cap: Quickie + Recap. Also known as Alison was unable to live tweet during the shows and needed to catch up and her DVR didn't tape one week and I had to wait for the next showing. Now I sound like Gary Busey.

Episode 4: Latin Week! The contestants must team up with another competitor for some salsa and cha cha action.

Kiki: From 202.8 lbs to 199.7 lbs- 3.1 lbs lost + dance score = 7.2

Kiki goes home, but not without a little booty poppin. The relationship between Corey and Kiki is split up over .1 point!

Next episode is a summer block party with a little hospital drama thrown in for good measure!

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 3- "Look at Me!"

I don't know why the episode was called this. I think it was because the dancers were supposed to show their true selves on stage through their dance. . .but I would have called the episode "So You Think You Can Dance Your Ass Off!" because of the cross reality show tie ins! The dancers are paired with their professional partners, and two of them (Jesus and Joshua) are previous contestants from SYTYCD, my fave reality dance show not dealing with weight loss.

After a quickie montage of last week's show, Mel B greets the contestants and tells them their styling tips for this week's show are located in some garment bags. I was hoping that there were cute and flattering costumes in there, but instead there were Cd's with music they were supposed to style their routines on.

Corey- Rapper's Delight
Stephanie- Imma Be (what? Imma be what?)
Meredith- Smile
Kiki- Beautiful
Sarah- My Life
LaToya- So Emotional
Michael- Ridin' Dirty (my fave!)
Katie- Evacuate the Dance Floor
Erica- No More Drama
Adamme- The Time of My Life
Briana- You Can't Touch This

The contestants meet their new pro partners and feel either excited, nervous, flustered, or sweaty. Then it's off to learn from nutritionist Rachel Bellen about portion control. Did you know that eating two sushi rolls is like eating three fish sandwiches? Me either. Then it's time to train with Lee. This week they are out of the gym and up Runyon Canyon, that hilly path I see on every weight loss show from Celebrity Fit Club to The Biggest Loser.

Quick inside peek: Michael lets us in on a secret: Kiki and Corey are having a love connection! Corey actual says that Kiki is "a little ball of adorableness". He's got it BAD. What guy says that?

Then it is the day of the show, y'all! Mel B introduces us to the judges and today's guest judge, Mayte Garcia. Who was a judge last year on the show. But now she is a guest. Where did she go?

Everyone had their opportunity to leave it on the dance floor, but then it was time to weigh in. (No time wasted on this show, ya hear NBC?)

Adamme (immune): From 289.5 lbs to 281.3 lbs- 8.2 lbs lost + dance score: 10.8
Stephanie: From 196.1 lbs to 188.2 lbs- 7.9 lbs lost + dance score: 11.7 WINNER!!!
Erica: From 224.8 lbs to 218.3 lbs- 5.8 lbs lost + dance score: 10.9
Michael: From 272.1 lbs to 263.2- 8.9 lbs lost + dance score: 10.0
Briana: From 275.3 lbs to 269.5 lbs- 5.8 lbs lost + dance score: 9.1
Corey: From 310.7 lbs to 303.4 lbs- 7.3 lbs lost + dance score: 8.6
LaToya: From 207.2 lbs to 206.3 lbs- 0.9 lbs + dance score: 8.4
Katie: From 207.3 lbs to 202.7 lbs- 4.6 lbs + dance score: 8.2
Kiki: From 212.0 lbs to 207.5 lbs- 4.5 lbs + dance score: 7.8
Sarah: From 208.9 lbs to 205.8 lbs- 3.1 lbs + dance score: 7.2
Meredith: From 205.6 lbs to 201.7 lbs- 3.9 lbs + dance score: 6.9

Meredith was PANNED on her dance (she got a 4 from one judge) and is sent home. But she is a classy lady. Pass the tissues.

I am happy to report that all the costumes were MUCH BETTER this week! No silver bike pants! And next week the dancers will be attempting salsa- muy caliente!

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 2- "Let's Get it Started!"

The auditions are over and it is time for the contestants to leave it all out on the dance floor! Oxygen promised us a "plus size" episode for the official premier, and live chatting with former Spice Girl and Dancing with the Stars contestant Mel B on the Oxygen website. I like my Twitter live chatting. . .sorry, Oxygen. It was a s*&t show over there, even if the fail whale came to the surface during our tweetfest. I must say, Mel B is a hotter host than last season's Winokur, and fellow journalist Stefan Pinto wrote an excellent article about why she is no longer hosting the weight loss competition. Reason number one: It's a weight loss competition.

So the show! The 12 contestants move into a large mansion together, complete with dance room and "cheat" cabinet filled with Twinkies. Kick the willpower into gear right off the bat. The 12 gather for a "last supper" (biblical references completely unintentional) of their favorite meals: Cheeseburgers, fries, fried chicken, and mac n' cheese, only to be shown the calories they consumed AFTER they ate. They were on the bottom of the plates. I think the calories should have been written out in the food. Bouncer Corey saw his meal was over 3,000 calories. The dancers are starting to figure out why they have been cast.

After a weigh in and health check by Dr. Geller (also sporting a longer 'do, like Dr. H from Biggest Loser- what's up with that?), the 12 head to the dance studio to find out what styles of dance they will be performing. 6 different styles are posted on the dance studio's mirrors, and the contestants scramble to grab their faves after choreographer Tiana gives a brief demo of each style. Contestants were paired with whoever chose the same style they chose. Then it was off to nutritionist Rachel Beller, self named "health police". Largest contestant Briana states, "I have never ate a vegetable," but is going to have to start. She eats a piece of broccoli and asks if there are any other options. Then it is off to train with Lee Wall, their personal trainer.

Busy, busy contestants.

3 days before the show, Mel B tells the contestants that their partners will now be their competitors, and each team will have a winner and a loser. The winners will be immune from elimination for the week, and the losers will have to depend on their weight loss percentage to keep them in the competition. Dramer.

It's the day of the show, y'all! This is my favorite part of the show. These people are big, but they can MOVE! We are greeted by a sexy Mel B, and are introduced to our judges Lisa Ann Walter, Danny Teeson, and Dave Scott. Dave Scott from So You Think You Can Dance! YAY! Reality show crossover!

Kiki vs. Briana: dance: Booty Crankin' winner: Briana
Michael vs. Latoya: dance: Pop-Jazz winner: Latoya
Erica vs. Katie: dance: Fierce Whacking winner: Katie
Stephanie vs. Caleb: dance: Thrashing winner: Stephanie
Meredith vs. Sarah: dance: Dirty Jazz winner: Sarah
Adamme vs. Corey: dance: Old Skool winner: Adamme

The winners headed to the winners bench and to the weigh in. The winner got immunity for next week.

Adamme: From 301.8 lbs to 289.5 lbs- 12.3 lbs lost + dance score: 13.4
Briana: From 289.6 lbs to 275.3 lbs- 14.3 lbs lost + dance score: 12.6
Latoya: From 217.0 lbs to 207.2 lbs- 9.8 lbs lost + dance score: 12.5
Stephanie: From 207.0 lbs to 196.1 lbs- 10.9 lbs lost + dance score: 12.0
Sarah: From 218.7 lbs to 208.9 lbs- 9.8 lbs lost + dance score: 11.8
Katie: From 215.9 lbs to 207.3 lbs- 8.6 lbs lost + dance score: 10.7
And the elimination bench hit the scale to find out who would be going home.

Corey: From 325.9 lbs to 310.7 lbs- 15.2 lbs lost + dance score: 12.4
Kiki: From 220.4 lbs to 212.0 lbs- 8.4 lbs lost + dance score: 11.1
Michael: From 285.6 lbs to 272.1 lbs- 13.5 lbs lost + dance score: 10.7
Meredith: From 214.5 lbs to 205.6 lbs- 8.9 lbs lost + dance score: 10.4
Erica: From 232.7 lbs to 224.8 lbs- 7.9 lbs lost + dance score: 9.7
Caleb: From 297.0 lbs to 282.6 lbs- 14.4 lbs lost + dance score: not enough to stay

Caleb and his eyebrows are sent back to Texas, but he handled it like a true gentleman.

The real losers? The people who design the HORRIBLE costumes for the dancers. They look like they went to Party Bazaar and bought the cheapest plus size costumes they could find.

Next week: partners! And more So You Think You Can Dance former contestants. Goodie goodie! *claps hands*

Dance Your A** Off- season 2/episode 1- Meet the DANCERS!

I love Dance Your Ass Off. Call it what you will, but to me it is an opportunity for larger folks to do what they love and get healthy while doing it. And you know that doing what you love is my fitness motto!

The first episode focused on the auditions, which the first season really didn't cover. New host Mel B. (of Spice Girls fame) introduces the show and the auditions spanning LA, Dallas, Chicago, and New York to find 25 contestants to narrow down for the 12 spots on the show. The show is a little more like So You Think You Can Dance- Plus Size! We now have a British host and we already had the British judge and the ballroom judge. The show is also showing the contestants in a more serious light now: Real people that have dance training that can't be REAL dancers because they are larger. Last season it was a LITTLE more jokey. I don't want to feel bad about watching this, folks.

The auditions showed there is a lot of talent in these larger packages, and it was hard for the judges to make their final picks. BUT THEY DID!

My fave contestant is Adamme, a make up artist with a lot of swagga.

I am planning on live tweeting during the show, so if you have the Oxygen Network, tune in with me, Mondays at 10/9 central!

SUMMER TV PREVIEW!

Can you believe that Memorial Day is this weekend? My GOD. I feel like we just celebrated the new year! With the change in seasons and the major finales of many of our favorite television programs, it is time to say HOLA to the new shows I will be blogging about this summer!

LOSING IT WITH JILLIAN: Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels doesn't take many vacations. The BL just wrapped up on Tuesday, and this Tuesday (June 1st) Jillian goes out on her own to travel America and move in with one "lucky" family so she can transform them. It isn't just about working out, either. It looks like she tackles everything from family relationships to hoarding. It sounds like all my favorite reality programs wrapped up into a neat, six-pack abs package. NBC: Tuesdays at 10/9 c.

DANCE YOUR ASS OFF: Controversial but incredibly entertaining, Dance Your Ass Off kicks it into high gear Monday, June 7th at 9/8c on the Oxygen Network. I LOVED THIS SHOW! Last season I watched as some overweight guys and gals put it all out there and left it on the dance floor. It was really inspirational to see people working out, doing something that they LOVE to do. Dancing is a calorie scorcher, and the results for some of the contestants was jaw dropping. New for the season: Mel B (aka Scary Spice) will now be hosting instead of Marissa Jaret Winokur, the chubby little star of Hairspray on Broadway.

HUGE: ABC Family, which in my mind makes some of the most questionable family programming out there (Tell me why Pretty Little Liars exists), has a new show about fat kids at fat camp called Huge. I don't know how I feel about this, but I won't know until I watch it. I'm assuming it's about kids coming to terms with themselves and others. I'm okay, you're okay. ABC Family: Mondays starting June 28th at 9/8 c.

BRIDAL BOOT CAMP: Leave it to super reality television vehicle VH1 to put on a show that combines all the cattiness of Rock of Love with the intensity of Harvey Walden IV on Celebrity Fit Club. Two teams of ladies compete to lose weight and win their dream wedding. The show may be hosted by a transsexual. Tell me if I am wrong, but shim sounds manly. VH1: Premieres Wednesday, June 9th 10/9 c.

Watch with me, tweet with me, read my blog. This summer is going to be hot and sweaty, with a 45% chance of some chaffing.

Surrogates and how we feel about ourselves. . .or I am my own Robot.

This weekend my boyfriend and I went to see the Bruce Willis thriller "Surrogates", which was pretty fantastic. And pretty freaky. And pretty most importantly, it made me think- and we all know that thinking leads to blogging. :)

In a nutshell, the movie takes place in the not so distant future in a world where everyone uses robots to do their everyday business. These robots are called surrogates, like the title, and are controlled by their owners with their mind in a contraption called a stem chair. These surrogates are supposed to be you, only better. Bruce Willis' surrogate had hair and no wrinkles, his wife was a beautiful blond with no scars and zero body issues. Some people took it to a whole different level: a hot female surrogate who had been murdered was in reality a big burly dude. The movie was frightening in it's commentary on how the human race is interacting with each other, or not interacting, by first using the Internet and chat rooms and things like facebook and MySpace, and leading to things like the use of surrogates.

I don't REALLY think that we will use robots as people in the future. I mean, not really. The fact that we could possibly have this technology is a little scary, but we all like being ourselves in the flesh, don't we?

And that's what got me thinking.

During the movie, I notice there wasn't a single surrogate that was fat. Or ugly. Or real looking. Everyone had high sculpted cheek bones and washboard abs, fabulous clothes and perfect hair. The world is already drifting towards the "fix what you have" phenomenon of plastic surgery. Botox and Juvederm injections are the norm for Hollywood elite and soccer moms. Reality shows like "Dr. 90210" and "Addicted to Beauty" make getting a boob job look like going through the drive through at McDonald's. All this fixing of ourselves through extreme methods has become so normal.

I wondered if surrogates really became a reality what would happen to us as people? Would we end up being the rolley polley fat people like in the movie "Wall-E" who forget how to walk and take care of ourselves without the use of computers? Or will we become the vanity obsessed creatures like the people in "Surrogates"?

I know that we all want that pill or that diet or that medical procedure that is going to give us everything that we have ever wanted, from younger looking skin to being that thin gorgeous super model. The only way to make our "dreams into reality", in reality, is hard work. Sweat. Making wise choices. To change your outward appearance, you have to make those changes inside too.

Everyday when I look in the mirror, I try to love what I see. It isn't always easy- I have days where nothing fits or my boobs look too big or I see a forming wrinkle and I wig out. But then I take a deep breath. I go for a run or pop in a workout DVD. I decide to pass on the donut and drink a health shake instead, have that extra glass of water. I try to make the healthy decision that will make me feel good inside, and that feel good radiates on the outside of my body.

I may not be the thinnest, but I am healthy. I may not be the youngest, but I never will be the youngest. I'm not a perfect robot. But I love this perfectly imperfect person that I am becoming very much.

The Naughty Chef- Episode 1- Better Bring Your Stretchy Pants

And no. I did not think of this title. It was on the info screen on my DVR.

The Naughty Chef is a new show on the Oxygen network featuring "celebrity" chef Blythe Beck, a larger than life, loud mouthed chef who is the executive chef of Central 214 restaurant in the Hotel Palomar in Dallas, TX. And when I say larger than life, I mean it- Blythe is a plus size lady who says she cooks "sexy new American cuisine" which is made with beer, bacon, cheese. And her "I'm not a skinny bitch" attitude is a snub in the face to the wave of "healthy" reality shows that have been hitting the tube. It's just a little ironic that Oxygen just finished the controversial reality show Dance Your Ass Off, which was called many things, none of which was particularly positive by the critics (I loved it, but then, I love almost anything that has dancing and weight loss in it), and now they are serving up this show.

And I am trying to figure out EXACTLY the message of The Naughty Chef.

It is from the producers of The Ace of Cakes, a reality show that follows a bakery of crazy folks in Maryland and the exotic confections that they create. So, is this show about the restaurant industry? Maybe. The opening montage shows a bustling kitchen and lots of praise from customer and co-workers alike for the over the top Beck, who uses phrases like a heart this and monkey and naughty this naughty that. She seems well loved by all that come into contact with her gregarious personality.

But then one customer says that Beck likes food and she is not a size 2 and she doesn't care. And Beck is large. After watching so many shows, I would say that Beck is at least 250 pounds, at least. Probably closer to 300 pounds. And with a menu that includes such healthful treats as Iceburg Babies (their number 1 best selling salad) and Chicken Fried Kobe, how couldn't she be? We see trays of steaming gravy laden dishes, mountains of cobbler, bowls of cheddar mac and cheese (and yes, I will admit my mouth is watering as I type this- I am not made out of lettuce). She is the foul mouthed Paula Dean who drinks and trash talks. Is the show abut her weight?

I think so. This show is not just about the restaurant and it's kooky staff of Door Whores and hated waiters. This show is about a female chef who hates being thin, calls her food naughty, and encourages all to accept the naughty with her. Now the show will lead you to think that this show is covering the trials and tribulations of a struggling new chef making her way in the world, and how bright she is, and how confident she is. But when I watch I see someone who isn't naughty- she is, well, mean. She berates most everyone she comes into contact with, and seems to despise the fact that anyone could be heathy and thin. When she gets 2 stars from a critic, I don't feel bad for her. I feel like she should suck it instead.

I am from Oklahoma, and I know first hand about the weight issues that plague the folks of the southern midwest. Texas does not need chicken fried Kobes, people. But the people LOVE it. They love someone that says "F you, steamed vegies!" and ladles up another side of mashed potatoes. They want someone to tell them that it's okay to eat this way. To tell them they are a skinny bitch that needs a chicken fried sandwich.

And every other show out there is the opposite message. I am so confused! What is Oxygen trying to establish with it's viewers when they preach eat what you want and then show ads for the Hollywood cookie diet and Slimquick diet pills?

The ironic thing is that everyone on the show keeps telling Beck that she is so full of life, and she looks as if she could die of a heart attack and not give a flip at any moment. And if she wants to live her life like that, she can live out loud. But I don't know why when obesity is so high in this country and people are dying from it, why we need a show that glorifies the naughty- and naughty means fat. The jury is out- I would like to say that it is okay to be anyway you want to be as long as you are happy. But if you are going to rub butter in America's face, don't expect everyone to want a taste.
